Human-shaped robots entered the boxing ring for the first time in a historic match held Sunday in Hangzhou, eastern China. The event, part of the World Robot Competition—Mecha Fighting Series, marks a new step in combining robotics and entertainment.

Organized by China Media Group, the event featured a mix of competitive matches and live demonstrations. Some robots moved on their own, while others were remote-controlled by human teams. The matches were broadcast live and showcased robots from top Chinese developers.

Unitree Robotics, a leading player in the industry, was a major partner in the competition. The company’s humanoid robot, Unitree G1, stood out during the event. Chen Xiyun of Unitree Robotics said that operators worked closely with their robots to respond to opponents in real time. The robots delivered straight punches, hook punches, sidekicks, and even aerial spin kicks. When they fell, they got up and kept fighting.
